COVID-19 Woes

Here in the United States and around the world, the state of our lives has changed drastically within even just the past few days. Whether you saw it coming or not, we are in an unprecedented time in history, unable to leave our homes and limiting our physical contact with others. Although there are many unknowns regarding this situation, what we do know is that the human race is a resilient one - and life will go on.

As an individual who pays attention to global news and works in an international field, I have been following the Coronavirus situation for months now. Each day, I would check the COVID-19 Map, seeing new red circles in previously untouched areas. At first it seemed so distant, just a problem faced by one nation. Then it spread to another, next a new continent, and next in my own nation, my own state, my own city. To some it may seem as though this situation has sprung up out of nowhere, but little by little it has been making its way toward us.

Now, here we are. Events and celebrations getting canceled, not being able to go out and socialize, people going crazy over hand sanitizer and toilet paper, having to work from home, or not being able to work at all depending on your occupation. It's easy to feel angry and scared about this situation. I, myself, am worried, too. My own life plans have been thrown up into the air and I am very unsure where the pieces will fall. However, I know that I am not alone. None of us are. This situation is bigger than all of us, and it's important that we remain calm and support one another.

If your plans to go abroad were canceled or you were abroad during this time and had to come home, I am truly sorry about your situation. It can be very disappointing and may feel as though your dreams have been crushed. However, right now the most important thing is the health and safety of everyone. It may not seem like it right now being that travel is heavily restricted, but we are all global citizens and must do what is best for the greater good. This WILL pass, and when it does, the world will still be there waiting for you.

Humanity has been through worse and still bounced back. Yes, the future is uncertain. But then again, it always has been and will be, won't it?

Stay strong, stay safe, and stay sane everyone.
